Productivity tip – Focus Booster app

I learned about a new productivity tool today that’s grounded in a very simple technique. Focus Booster, which is available on both Windows as well as Mac OS X, is a free timer app that performs a very simple task – it counts down from 25 minutes, rings an alarm, then counts down from 5 minutes, and rings the alarm again. This reflects the 25 minute block of work + 5 minute block of break that’s prescribed by the “Pomodoro technique”. This time management technique was invented in the 1980s by Francesco Cirillo and allows you to stay focused on the task you’ve selected, remove distractions and stay fresh as you work on the task.

After trying it while working on the deliverable for a consulting project, I have to say that it was really effective for me. If you’ve been struggling with productivity, overwork or you’re just a lifehacker at heart who wants to try some new method to improve your life, give Focus Booster a shot, then let me know how effective it was for you.
