In every life, a book of stories, written one blog post at a time

I went  to a local pop-up shop to do some last-minute Christmas shopping a couple of weeks ago, and while I was there, became engaged in a conversation with one of the proprietors of the store. J, as I’ll refer to him as from here onwards, shared a few interesting stories about himself. A couple of the things that really stood out to me about our conversation were

1. That he didn’t think that everyone should blog.

2. That he really enjoyed storytelling and stories.

In the days of cavern-living, our ancestors scrawled out scenes of game hunts and village rituals on the walls of their abodes. When papyrus and paper were invented, our forebears scribbled out the fables of their time. After the advent of celluloid, great tales were immortalized using words and sounds, and screened wherever projection screens and demand for entertainment were present. In more recent years, the blog has been a (the?) medium through which we record our modern day narratives.

Stories entertain, teach lessons, inspire thoughts and propagate cultures and traditions. If we are to document our times and the current stage of our mental evolution, then we owe it to ourselves to capture them using the tools that are available to us. For now, the tool that best reflects where we are along the path of cultural and technological progress is the blog. If stories truly matter to us, then we owe it to ourselves to blog.
